Institute Vision/Mission:
The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research Inc. (GDI) opened its doors to Métis and non-Métis students in 1980 with the intention of promoting the renewal and development of Métis culture in Saskatchewan through the provision of Métis-specific research and educational programs and services. Since its inception, the institute has strived to find a balance between appropriate community based education and sensitivity towards the Métis culture. With seven campuses throughout Saskatchewan, including four sites of the Dumont Technical Institute which began in 1992 as GDI's adult upgrading and technical training branch, the Gabriel Dumont Institute is regarded as a leader in preparing future teachers for the educational needs of Saskatchewan's native youth and in creating a solid foundation for their students who wish to transfer to other university programs.
